All the Ingredients for a Successful Club Meeting

Maidenhead Speakers Club – Monday 9th September 2013

With Guest Blogger, JULie FarrELL

The ingredients to a successful club meeting:

Take one energetic and well-organised TME, Chris Boden.

Add one fun and inspiring Table Topics Master, Paul Aherne, and mix with eight Topics takers in the form of Yohan McDonald, Beshlie Donaldson, Vinay Neogi, Nick Bailey, Doreen Gowing, Mohammad Aziz, Dan Hull, and David Collumb.  A Timer in the form of Rob Crowe is essential.

Best Table Topics ribbon of the night was dished out to Doreen!

Combine with an informative and assertive Education Slot by Steve Cann, giving some helpful tips on how to organise a speech.

Mix in four prepared speeches – a brave and heartwarming Icebreaker by Nick Spooner, a lesson on how to be happy by Fatiha Lafkar, an inspiring advanced talk about how to encourage young people back into the workplace by Mary Fraser, and an original look at how to solve the UK’s housing problem told in Ben De Candole’s ubiquitous amusing and charming manner.

Best Speaker of the evening ribbon was served to Fatiha!

Leave to stand for a fifteen minute break of socialising, tea, and fig rolls, organised by the wonderful Sgt @ Arms, Doreen.

Resume, add the final ingredients of a very high standard of evaluators, Karen Szulakowska, Naresh Chhonker, Mell Sheppard, and Steve Catchick.

Stir liberally for two and a quarter hours, and you’re guaranteed a successful club meeting. Best Evaluation ribbon of the evening was the icing on the cake for Karen!

A reminder that the Humorous Speech/Table Topics Educational Workshop (St Peter’s Church Centre, Furze Platt, SL6 7QU) is next Monday 16th September, starting at 7:30 promptly.

The next club night at our usual venue, St Luke’s Hall, is on Monday 23rd September. See you all at both events!
