What is Toastmasters?
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs that meet online and in person. In a supportive community or corporate environment, members prepare and deliver speeches, respond to impromptu questions, and give and receive constructive feedback. It is through this regular practice that members are empowered to meet personal and professional communication goals.
Founded in 1924, the organization is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado with approximately 270,000 members in more than 14,000 clubs in 150 countries.
Toastmasters International Mission
We empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.
Why Maidenhead Speakers Club?
We are a club with a strong history that goes back over 40 years since our founding in 1983. We are an exciting group of members of a wide range of ages, backgrounds and abilities.
Club Mission
We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.
What We Do
There are three key elements to learning to speak effectively and confidently in public:
-
Prepared Speeches
-
Impromptu Speeches
-
Evaluations
We follow the Toastmasters International Pathways programme which is an online platform that provides education and guidance for speakers of all levels. Speakers follow a structured pathway of their choice from the Toastmasters website, each focusing on key speaking skills including speech organization, gestures and vocal variety. Members upon registration get assigned a mentor to support them along their journey too!
Our meetings provide an opportunity to deliver both prepared and impromptu speeches and to gain essential feedback, all in a friendly and supportive environment. Some meetings include educational sessions on aspects of public speaking.
